Rashidi Ladoja Crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Staff of Office Ceremony Set

Former Oyo State Governor, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has officially ascended the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The traditional crowning took place at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, following his symbolic reception of the Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba.

The coronation marks a historic moment for the ancient city, as Ladoja succeeds the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 20252. Governor Seyi Makinde, who interrupted his annual vacation to attend the event, is scheduled to present the staff and instrument of office to the new monarch at Mapo Hall.

Dignitaries from across Nigeria, including President Bola Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto, and several traditional rulers, gathered to witness the ceremony. Cultural troupes, vibrant attire, and traditional music added color to the celebration, which was held under tight security.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja renewed his call for the creation of Ibadan State, emphasizing the city’s historical and cultural significance. Governor Makinde praised the peaceful succession process and expressed confidence in Ladoja’s ability to unify and develop Ibadanland.
