The Federal Government has inaugurated a 10-member independent committee to investigate the deaths of 37 people detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State over suspected illegal mining.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, inaugurated the committee today in Abuja, following a directive by President Bola Tinubu for a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The committee is tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the deaths, reviewing NSCDC’s detention practices, and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.
