The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a 40% salary increase for lecturers across the country’s universities, alongside the introduction of a new professorial allowance.
According to officials, the move is part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of academic staff and strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system. The government emphasized that the pay rise and allowances are designed to motivate lecturers, enhance productivity, and reduce the likelihood of industrial disputes.
Stakeholders in the education sector have welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step toward addressing long-standing demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and ensuring stability in the academic calendar.
