WAEC Clarifies: No WASSCE Resit for Nigerian Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has recently addressed circulating reports about a new resit examination for Nigerian candidates. According to WAEC Nigeria, these claims are false and have caused unnecessary confusion among students and parents.

Moyosola Adesina, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC Nigeria, clarified that the reports did not originate from Nigeria and are not relevant to Nigerian candidates. The misunderstanding arose from a remark by John Kapi, the head of public affairs for WAEC Ghana, regarding a new exam format introduced in Ghana.

WAEC Nigeria’s examination schedule remains unchanged, with three examination cycles conducted each year: the May/June WASSCE for school-based candidates, the November/December WASSCE for private candidates, and the first series of the WASSCE for private candidates, which typically takes place between February and March.

Adesina emphasized that there is no change to this system, and WAEC Nigeria is preparing for this year’s first series as scheduled. The first series of the WASSCE diet for private candidates, introduced under the administration of Mr. Olu Adenipekun, has continued to operate without significant changes under his successors.

This clarification from WAEC Nigeria has put to rest any concerns about a newly introduced resit exam for Nigerian candidates. Students and parents can now focus on their preparations for the upcoming examinations without any additional worries.
