Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially declared his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made at a grand rally of the PDP–APM Alliance held in Ibadan, where thousands of party supporters gathered to witness the historic declaration.
Makinde, who has served as Governor of Oyo State since 2019, told the crowd that his decision to run was driven by a desire to provide credible leadership, economic reforms, and national unity. He emphasized that Nigeria needs a new direction, promising to prioritize security, education, and industrial growth if elected.
The rally showcased the strength of the newly formed PDP–APM Alliance, which Makinde described as a coalition built to challenge the ruling party in 2027. Party leaders and stakeholders present hailed his ambition as a bold step toward reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
Political analysts note that Makinde’s declaration positions him as one of the earliest major contenders for the presidency, setting the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive election season.
