NCAA Launches Investigation into Comfort Emanson–Ibom Air Crew Altercation.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially commenced a formal investigation into the highly publicized altercation between passenger Comfort Emanson and members of the Ibom Air crew. The move comes in response to viral footage that captured the incident unfolding at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

According to Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the investigation began with a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, involving key crew member Julie Edwards along with other personnel directly involved in the incident. The NCAA’s directorates of Aviation Security; Operations, Licensing & Training Standards; Legal; and Consumer Protection are all collaborating to ensure a thorough, impartial conclusion.

On Thursday, August 21, Comfort Emanson personally appeared before the authority, accompanied by her lawyer for questioning. This step follows the NCAA’s standard protocol in securing firsthand testimonies from all parties involved.

The incident drew widespread attention when early August video footage depicted Emanson in a confrontational incident aboard an Ibom Air flight, allegedly striking a flight attendant and engaging in a physical clash upon landing. She was subsequently arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court and briefly held at Kirikiri Correctional Centre before being released after the aviation minister’s intervention, which resulted in the withdrawal of the airline’s complaint.

With public outcry growing, particularly from human rights advocates and civil society groups, the NCAA’s investigation is being watched closely, with many calling for transparency and accountability in how the matter is resolved.
