Sokoto State Bans “Signing‑Out” Parties in Secondary Schools.

The Sokoto State Government has officially prohibited all “signing‑out” celebrations by graduating secondary school students across both public and private schools. The prohibition was announced on July 24, 2025, by Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, citing growing concerns over discipline and student behavior  .

Historically, signing‑out parties were modest farewell gestures involving students writing messages on their uniforms and celebrating after SSCE exams. However, according to the Ministry, the tradition has devolved into disorderly conduct, vandalism, and public disturbances, undermining academic discipline and core school values  .

The new circular mandates that all school principals immediately halt these activities—whether on or off campus—and that parents discourage participation. Failure to comply is to be met with enforcement by school authorities, emphasizing adherence to the state’s behavioral standards  .

Commissioner Ala stressed that the ban is part of broader efforts to uphold academic integrity and responsible conduct within schools. The directive was sent via an official circular signed by the Director of Examination Matters, Abubakar Abdullahi  .

Residents and educators are urged to support the policy change by promoting disciplined celebration alternatives. With the ban now in effect, school leadership is expected to monitor compliance closely to maintain order around end-of-year activities
