The Oyo State Government, in collaboration with renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan’s KAP Film and Television Academy, has launched a filmmaking residency programme aimed at equipping young people with practical skills in the creative industry.
The initiative, unveiled in Ibadan, is designed to provide aspiring filmmakers with hands-on training in various aspects of movie production, including scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and sound design.
According to the organisers, the residency will not only nurture creative talent but also create employment opportunities and boost the state’s growing film and entertainment sector.
Kunle Afolayan, founder of KAP Academy, expressed optimism about the programme, stating that it will empower young storytellers to create content that reflects Nigeria’s culture while meeting global standards.
Oyo State officials reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote youth development and contribute to the state’s economic growth through the creative industry.
The residency is expected to commence later this year, with applications opening to youths across the state and beyond.
