Makinde Unveils Plans for New Ibadan Airport Terminal to Handle One Million Passengers Annually.

The Oyo State Government has initiated the construction of a new terminal building at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan, aiming to accommodate at least one million passengers annually upon completion.

Governor Seyi Makinde, during the foundation-laying ceremony, emphasized the project’s significance in enhancing the airport’s capacity and positioning it as a top-tier facility in Nigeria. He noted that the new terminal would not only ease passenger flow but also boost cargo handling capabilities, thereby contributing to the state’s economic growth.

The construction is being undertaken by Craneburg Construction Company Limited, with the project expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. This development follows the first phase of the airport’s upgrade, which included runway extension to 3,000 meters to meet international standards and accommodate larger aircraft.

The new terminal is anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity for residents of Oyo State and neighboring regions, facilitating international travel and boosting tourism. The project reflects the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and promoting economic development through enhanced transportation facilities.

As the construction progresses, stakeholders and residents are optimistic about the positive impact the upgraded airport will have on the region’s connectivity and economic prospects. The project is expected to create job opportunities and stimulate local businesses, contributing to the overall development of Oyo State.
