Olorogun Oscar “Oskar” Ibru, prominent Nigerian industrialist and Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, has died at the age of 67 after a brief illness, his family confirmed on Wednesday.
A key figure in the storied Ibru dynasty, Ibru played a pivotal role in maintaining and expanding the business empire his father, Olorogun Michael Ibru, built. The conglomerate spans sectors including shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and commerce.
Born on 11 August 1958, Oskar Ibru joined the family business after completing his education abroad. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, overseeing numerous ventures and sustaining the group’s reputation as a pillar of Nigeria’s corporate landscape.
News of his passing has triggered an outpouring of tributes from across Nigeria. In a social media post, media entrepreneur Dele Momodu remembered him as “an extremely friendly gentleman and a socialite per excellence.”
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made public, but the family is expected to issue details in due course.
