In a remarkable display of vigilance and dedication, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command recently intercepted a white Peugeot 15-seater bus transporting 59 children suspected to have been trafficked. The children, aged between four and twelve years, were rescued along the Abuja-Kano route on January 6, 2025.
The operation, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarki Umar, resulted in the arrest of the driver, Ali Ibrahim, and his assistant, Alhassan Ibrahim, both residents of Kano State. Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were being transported to Nasarawa under the guise of receiving training.
This successful rescue operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian police to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable children. The swift action taken by the police not only prevented the children from falling into the hands of traffickers but also sent a strong message to those involved in such heinous activities.
In another development, a joint security team comprising the police and civil defense corps raided several scrap dealers’ shops in Zuba, Dei-Dei, and Saburi along Gwagwa Road. The raid led to the recovery of stolen manhole covers, electric cables, and iron rods, and the arrest of seven suspects.
The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has vowed to continue the crackdown on criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of residents in the region. The recent operations serve as a testament to the commitment of the Nigerian police to uphold the law and protect the community.
