Federal Government Bans Admission and Transfer of SS3 Students in Secondary Schools

The Federal Government has announced a ban on the admission and transfer of Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) students across all secondary schools in Nigeria. The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education, is aimed at curbing academic malpractice and ensuring that students complete their final year of secondary education in the schools where they began their senior classes.

Officials explained that the policy will help maintain academic integrity, reduce cases of exam fraud, and strengthen monitoring of students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other national exams. The government emphasized that SS3 transfers often disrupt learning processes and create loopholes exploited for examination malpractice.

The announcement has sparked reactions among parents, educators, and stakeholders in the education sector. While some welcome the move as a step toward improving standards, others argue that it could pose challenges for families who relocate or face unforeseen circumstances requiring school changes.
