The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has officially signed the Senior Citizens Bill into law, marking a historic step in social welfare for the state.
Under the new legislation, all citizens of Abia State aged 60 years and above will be entitled to:
- A free monthly salary
- Free medical care
- Additional welfare benefits guaranteed for life
Governor Otti described the bill as a landmark policy aimed at protecting the elderly, ensuring they live with dignity, and reducing the financial burden on families. The initiative has been widely praised as a model for other states, potentially setting a new standard for senior citizen welfare across Nigeria.
