Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has recently shared his frustrations about the financial pressures that come with being a celebrity in Lagos. In a candid post, Spyro revealed the constant financial demands he faces, whether at restaurants, churches, or even while online, making it hard to escape the expectations placed on him.
Spyro, best known for his hit song “Who’s Your Guy,” recounted an incident where a man insulted him after he promised to assist him the following day but was unable to do so at that moment. This experience, he noted, was just one of many that highlight the overwhelming expectations placed on celebrities in the city.
The artist disclosed that he spends at least N100,000 every time he steps out and an estimated N15 million annually due to his celebrity status. He lamented that wherever he goes—whether it’s a restaurant, church, or even just using his phone online—he is bombarded with financial requests, but few consider the toll it takes on him.
Spyro expressed his gratitude to his colleagues who are also navigating these challenges, stating, “S/O to every one of my colleagues out there going through this, y’all are the real MVPs and I celebrate you.”
