The African Union Commission (AUC) and the International Committee of AFRIMA will officially announce the host city for the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) on May 13, 2025, at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Two cultural powerhouses—Lagos, Nigeria, and Gauteng, South Africa—are vying for the prestigious honor of hosting Africa’s most celebrated music event.
Lagos is widely regarded as the heartbeat of Africa’s entertainment industry and the home of Afrobeats. The city has produced global music icons like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Ayra Starr. Its bustling energy, electrifying nightlife, and deeply rooted connection to African music make it a strong contender.
Meanwhile, Gauteng, South Africa, has long been a powerhouse of creativity, contributing to groundbreaking genres such as Kwaito and Amapiano. As home to Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Soweto, the province boasts a rich cultural heritage and an established music industry that resonates globally.
Beyond prestige, hosting AFRIMA is a catalyst for economic growth, tourism, and global recognition. The chosen city will welcome thousands of visitors, from artists and policymakers to media professionals and investors.
