Nollywood veteran Yemi Solade has revealed that he quit attending church more than a decade ago, following a confrontation in 2013 with his pastors over working on Sundays. During a candid appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, Solade shared that church leaders expected him to tell producers not to call him for work on Sundays. Angered by what he saw as an interference in his livelihood, he responded by cursing them and decided to disengage from regular church attendance altogether .
Solade described how stepping away from church brought him greater peace, not the turmoil that spirituality was supposed to shield him from. “The notion that if you don’t attend church once life must die… I have peace, I do well,” he said, challenging common spiritual assumptions .
He also objected to the idea of giving up Sundays, often a day of service remains for work obligations, especially when his income depended on it. He criticized pastors who prioritized church services over his career, calling the church “another man’s business” and resisting directives that threatened his livelihood
