The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has addressed the arrest of convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
Social media influencer and activist Martins Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, revealed the news earlier in the day through a video shared on his Instagram page yesterday.
This came as the investigative panel set up to probe allegations that convicted crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky was kept out of the custodial centre while serving his six-month prison sentence, yesterday turned in its report, dismissing the claims.
In his response, the Interior Minister assured that the report would not be ignored and that all those implicated would face the full consequences of the law.
Confirming Bobrisky’s arrest yesterday at the Seme Border while attempting to flee the country, Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Kenneth Udo stated that the cross-dresser is considered a “person of interest.”
He stated, “In line with its commitment to border security, the NIS intercepted Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border while attempting to leave the country.
The Service would like to inform the public that Okuneye is a person of interest due to recent matters of public concern. He is currently being interrogated and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.”
The Service assured the public that it will continue to handle its border security duties in a civil and professional manner.
Otse alleged that Bobrisky’s arrest by NIS officers was due to his attempt to evade an ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives. Otse had been questioned regarding leaked audio in which Bobrisky allegedly admitted to bribing prison officials to avoid imprisonment. The recordings also implicated Bobrisky in a money laundering case reportedly dropped by the EFCC.
“Bobrisky was arrested this morning at the Seme border while attempting to flee to Benin Republic,” Otse said, adding that Bobrisky is allegedly in immigration custody.
