Uganda Investigate Mysterious Death of Nigerian Footballer in shopping mall.

Ugandan authorities have launched an investigation into the tragic death of Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, who reportedly fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade in Kampala. Lawal, who played for Vipers SC, was found critically injured on the morning of February 24, 2025. Despite being rushed to Entebbe Referral Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Preliminary reports indicate that Lawal had visited the mall to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national residing in one of the apartments. Witnesses claim they heard a loud noise before discovering the footballer’s body on the ground floor. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and questioning those who were present at the scene.

Lawal, a former Nigeria U-23 international, joined Vipers SC in 2023 and quickly became a key player. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan and Nigerian football communities. His club expressed deep sorrow, describing him as a talented athlete who had a promising career ahead.

Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether Lawal’s fall was accidental or if foul play was involved. “We are treating this matter seriously and will provide updates as more details emerge,” Onyango stated. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Fans and teammates have taken to social media to mourn Lawal, sharing heartfelt tributes and memories of his contributions to football. A candlelight vigil is being planned in his honor, with many calling for a thorough investigation to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
