A tragic tanker explosion on Otedola Bridge in Lagos resulted in two fatalities and injuries to three others. The incident involved a gas-laden tanker that overturned while attempting to navigate a turn, leading to a massive fire.
The fire rapidly spread, engulfing 12 vehicles, eight tricycles, and a nearby building. Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire Service, promptly arrived at the scene to contain the blaze and assist victims. The three injured individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical attention.
The explosion also affected nearby structures, including a church, a residential house, and a mechanics’ park located under the bridge adjacent to CMD Road. As a result, authorities cordoned off the area and advised motorists to seek alternative routes to ease traffic congestion and facilitate recovery operations.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other relevant agencies have since cleared the wreckage, and normal traffic flow has resumed on the bridge.
