In an exciting turn of events, the Nigerian team has advanced to the final of the World Championship, where they will face Japan on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. Nigerian time. The team achieved a dominant 3-0 victory over China and a hard-fought 2-1 win against Peru, extending their impressive run in the global tournament.
Despite a slow start with two consecutive defeats, the Nigerian team bounced back to win four straight games, securing their place in the final. The National Sports Commission (NSC) has applauded the team’s remarkable performance, with NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade describing it as a significant achievement for Nigerian sports.
Olopade highlighted the excitement of NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko upon learning of the team’s success and emphasized the need to maintain the momentum under the new mandate to build the Nigerian sports ecosystem. He assured the Nigeria Squash Federation of the Commission’s continued support, stating that every sport will receive the necessary backing to excel.
The championship, organized by Hong Kong Squash and sanctioned by the World Squash Federation, featured 26 countries, with Nigeria and South Africa as the only African representatives.
