Nigeria Crowned Overall Winner at 2024 AMGA Awards with Outstanding Medal Haul

Nigeria stole the spotlight at the 2024 African Media and Games Awards (AMGA), securing the title of overall winner in a dazzling display of talent and innovation. Held in Johannesburg, South Africa, the event recognized exceptional achievements in media, gaming, and content creation, with Nigeria emerging as the most celebrated nation.

Team Nigeria Armed Forces topped the medals table at the 2nd Africa Military Games (AMGA2024, clinching a total of 234 medals as the competition ended on Saturday night. Team Nigeria secured 114 gold, 65 silver, and 45 bronze across 21 sports, according to the medal table. Algeria, the next host nation, finished second with 96 medals, comprising 53 gold, 22 silver, and 31 bronze. Kenya secured third place with a total of 59 medals.

Ghana, Ethiopia, and Tunisia rounded out the top six, finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. South Africa, Libya, and Uganda followed in seventh, eighth, and ninth positions, with Tanzania completing the top ten.

Key victories included awards for Best Digital Campaign, Most Influential Gaming Content, and Excellence in Media Reporting. Nigerian startups also excelled, with several companies being recognized for groundbreaking work in gaming technology and digital storytelling.

Speaking at the event, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture praised the winners for their dedication and creativity. “This is a proud moment for our nation. It is a testament to the exceptional talent and hard work of Nigerians in shaping the future of media and technology,” he said.

One of the standout moments of the night was the recognition of Nigeria’s first-ever African Gaming Ambassador, whose work in promoting eSports and gaming culture was lauded. This achievement underscores the nation’s growing prominence in the global gaming industry, a sector that is rapidly expanding in Africa.

Attendees noted that Nigeria’s dominance at the AMGA reflects broader trends of innovation and cultural dynamism in the country. With initiatives supporting young entrepreneurs and a thriving entertainment scene, the nation is poised to continue leading in these fields.
