The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has once again displayed its relentless effort in combating drug trafficking, unveiling an unsettling story of recidivism and clever concealment.
On April 7, 2025, Ndubuisi Udatu—a 41-year-old ex-convict and Malaysian returnee—was intercepted at an NDLEA checkpoint in Namtari, Adamawa State. Ndubuisi, traveling via a commercial bus, was found with two oversized music speakers concealing 2.7 kilograms of methamphetamine. His destination was a network of distribution points spanning Yola, Mubi, and even across the border into Cameroon. Shockingly, the suspect confessed to resuming drug trafficking after serving a jail term in Malaysia for similar offenses.
This dramatic bust was part of a series of coordinated anti-drug operations across Nigeria. Highlights include:
- Arrest at the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Cross River State, where a suspect was caught with 8,740 ampoules of injectable opioids.
- Seizure of 25,600 Tramadol pills in Kano.
- Interception of drug shipments and arrests in Abuja and Niger State.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA continues to emphasize public awareness and advocacy under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, engaging schools, colleges, and traditional institutions. Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the exemplary service of officers, urging continuous efforts against cartels and drug demand.
As drug syndicates innovate their concealment methods, the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment remains a critical force in ensuring Nigeria’s safety and health.
