LASEMA Averts Tragedy With Timely Response In Ikotun

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has averted a major disaster in the Ikotun area of Lagos State following a tanker incident in the area.

In a statement on Sunday, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the truck was laden with 33,000 litres of the Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol.

When emergency officials arrived at the scene, the vehicle was seen in a tilted position at Ile-Iwe inward The Synagogue, Ikotun, a situation that poses danger to residents of the area.

“On arrival at the incident scene, an articulated truck laden with 33,000litres of premium motor spirit (Petrol) was found in a precarious situation (tilted position),” he said.

“The transloading phase of the products into another articulated truck has been successfully completed without incident despite threats to the densely populated community after a risk assessment was conducted.”

LASEMA officials were joined by operatives of the Lagos Fire Service (Isolo division) and personnel of the Nigeria Police (Ikotun division) who were on the ground to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s heavy-duty equipment (Supermetro) has been dispatched for the recovery phase in order to restore the flow of traffic along the carriageway.

He stated further that the truck has been recovered to a lay-by and free flow of traffic has been restored.
