Security agencies have confirmed the arrest of Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Amandi for allegedly participating in a coup plot aimed at assassinating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Amandi, a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter, was reportedly recruited as a propagandist to support the coup plotters. The Defence Headquarters revealed that the plan involved a violent overthrow of the administration, with top government officials including the Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas also marked as targets.
Authorities stated that the coup attempt was foiled in September 2025, and those involved — both military officers and civilians — will face trial before military courts. The revelation of Amandi’s alleged role has shocked the entertainment industry, sparking debates about the intersection of politics, propaganda, and Nollywood.
