Nigerian superstar and songwriter Ayodeji Balogun, also known as Wizkid has made history by becoming the first Nigerian act to win the BET soul train award for the second time.
The artist shared the award for his collaboration with Beyoncé, Blue Ivy and Saint JHN on the song ‘brown skin’.
The song has received positive receptions from several critics such as Mani Bashir of Teen Vogue who described the song as a “celebration of dark-skinned women while Amanda Mitchell at O, The Oprah Magazine showered praise on the song for being “unapologetically and fearlessly Black”
Besides this recent accolade, the song has also won the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration, 2020 and BET HER Award 2020 also adding to the success of the song .
The news of Wizkid’s victory broke on the internet after @Soultrain took to their Twitter account to announce the winner of the award.
The award which took place on Sunday saw American songwriter Chris Brown cart away with four awards including Best collaboration and Song of the year awards
