In a recent revelation, social media activist and influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has claimed that Nigerian rapper Azeez Adeshina Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, admitted to owing his former signee, Mohbad, an undisclosed sum of money before the latter’s tragic death. This disclosure was made in a video message that surfaced on social media ahead of Mohbad’s 28th posthumous birthday.
Mohbad, who passed away under controversial circumstances in September 2023, had exited Naira Marley’s Marlian Music over alleged contractual disputes. The nature of his death led to widespread speculation and accusations against Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, who was seen assaulting Mohbad in a viral video before his death.
Despite being arraigned and remanded in October 2023, both Naira Marley and Sam Larry were granted bail after pleading not guilty. However, public sentiment has remained skeptical, with many Nigerians continuing to boycott Naira Marley’s music.
VeryDarkMan, who has been actively involved in the fight for justice for Mohbad, stated that he offered Naira Marley the opportunity to use his platform to prove his innocence, but Naira Marley declined. According to VeryDarkMan, Naira Marley admitted to owing Mohbad a significant amount of money and explained that their issues began when Mohbad started working outside the record label’s contract and requested a change in management.
