UCH Ibadan Regains Electricity After 100 Days of Blackout.

The University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan has finally regained electricity supply after spending over 100 days in darkness. The prolonged power outage had severely affected medical services, with patients and staff enduring harsh conditions due to a lack of steady electricity.

Reports indicate that the power crisis was caused by accumulated debts owed to the electricity distribution company, leading to a disconnection. During the blackout, the hospital relied heavily on generators, which were not always operational due to fuel shortages and maintenance challenges. This situation disrupted critical medical procedures, including surgeries and laboratory tests.

Following intense public outcry and appeals from stakeholders, electricity was restored to the hospital. Sources suggest that interventions from government agencies and hospital management played a key role in resolving the issue. Patients and healthcare workers expressed relief, as normal operations gradually resumed.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and other concerned bodies have called for long-term solutions to prevent a recurrence of such a crisis. They emphasized the need for government support in ensuring that tertiary healthcare facilities are not subjected to power disruptions that could endanger lives.

While UCH authorities have yet to disclose the full details of the resolution, the hospital’s management has assured the public of improved service delivery. Many are now urging the government to prioritize stable electricity in all healthcare institutions to enhance patient care and medical efficiency.
