Tinubu Mourns Pascal Dozie, Calls Him ‘A Rare Breed’ and Pillar of Nigeria’s Private Sector.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Pascal Gabriel Dozie, describing him as “a rare breed business leader whose wisdom, humility, and pioneering efforts laid a foundation upon which many continue to build.”

Dozie, founder of the defunct Diamond Bank and pioneer chairman of MTN Nigeria, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 85. President Tinubu highlighted Dozie’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors, noting that his passing is “a profound loss to the private sector and Nigeria.”

In addition to his roles at Diamond Bank and MTN Nigeria, Dozie served as a former director at the Central Bank of Nigeria, president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group. President Tinubu emphasized that Dozie’s influential leadership extended well beyond corporate boardrooms, dedicating decades to national policy formulation, private sector development, and youth empowerment.

The President extended his condolences to Dozie’s family and urged the Nigerian private sector to honor his memory by upholding the values of integrity, innovation, and nation-building for which he was renowned.
