Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed that his administration intends to implement a minimum wage of N85,000 for workers.
He made this announcement on Wednesday evening during an interview on Channels TV titled “One-On-One with Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
Addressing the topic of minimum wage, Sanwo-Olu stated, “I’m pleased to inform you that the minimum wage in Lagos, which has been agreed upon with our union, is now N85,000.”
“This isn’t about competition, so I won’t claim we’re paying more than others; it’s about what we can afford and what our capacity allows,” the governor stated.
He further revealed that Lagos had raised workers’ salaries earlier this year, expressing his hope to increase the minimum wage to ₦100,000 by January 2025.
“We already implemented a salary increase earlier this year for our staff, which was well-deserved, and we will continue to do so,” he added.
“I hope to return in January to announce that I’ve raised Lagos’ minimum wage to N100,000—not to outshine anyone, but because I want my people to have a living wage and feel that the government is truly working for them,” he said.
