Sanwo-Olu Unveils $150m Charterhouse Lagos Campus.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially unveiled the Charterhouse Lagos Primary School and commenced the construction of its secondary school campus. The $150 million project, located on a 70-hectare site in Ogombo, Lekki, is set to provide world-class education for students in Nigeria. Charterhouse Lagos is the first African branch of the prestigious UK-based Charterhouse School, one of the world’s oldest and most respected educational institutions.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of the investment in Lagos’ education sector. He stated that the establishment of Charterhouse Lagos aligns with his administration’s vision of making the state a center for academic excellence. He added that the school would offer families access to top-tier education without the need to send their children abroad, thus reducing capital flight associated with foreign schooling.

The newly launched primary school will begin operations in the upcoming academic session, while the secondary school is expected to open upon the completion of its construction. Charterhouse Lagos is designed to maintain the same high educational standards as its parent institution in the UK, offering a curriculum that blends British education with local relevance. This initiative aims to attract families seeking premium international education within Nigeria.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also highlighted that investments in education are crucial to the state’s long-term development. He reiterated his government’s commitment to fostering a learning-friendly environment and attracting top global institutions to Lagos. The partnership with Charterhouse represents a major step toward raising educational standards and creating more opportunities for students to excel at an international level.

The launch of Charterhouse Lagos marks a milestone in Nigeria’s private education sector, reinforcing the state’s position as a hub for world-class learning. As the project progresses, stakeholders anticipate that it will set a precedent for future educational collaborations and inspire further investments in the country’s academic infrastructure.
