Sanwo-Olu Reduces Lagos Red Line Fare to N1,000.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line. This adjustment lowers the fare for a trip from Agbado to Oyingbo from N1,500 to N1,000. The governor made this announcement during the commissioning of the Abule Egba Bus Terminal on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

The fare reduction aims to encourage broader adoption of the Red Line and provide financial relief to commuters amid current economic challenges. The LRMT Red Line commenced passenger operations on September 15, 2024, with six trips daily, increasing to nine trips per day on February 10, 2025, in response to growing commuter demand.

In addition to the fare reduction, Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the Abule Egba Bus Terminal, strategically located along the Oshodi-Abule Egba Expressway. This terminal is designed to enhance connectivity and complement the existing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network along the corridor, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing efficient and accessible public transportation for all Lagosians.

The governor also disclosed plans to introduce new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses by the third quarter of 2025. This initiative aims to improve bus services, reduce wait times at bus stops, and offer a cleaner, more efficient transport alternative.

These developments underscore the Lagos State government’s dedication to enhancing public transportation infrastructure and easing commuting challenges for residents.
