The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori made this declaration during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday, March 28, 2025.
The decision follows credible intelligence reports indicating potential threats to the safety of participants and the general public during the celebrations. CP Bakori emphasized that the prohibition aims to ensure a peaceful and secure environment throughout the festive period. He assured residents that adequate security measures have been implemented to protect worshippers at designated Eid prayer grounds.
In light of this development, worshippers are advised to adhere strictly to security guidelines, which include avoiding the carrying of items that could raise suspicion. The police have also enforced a strict ban on horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving during the festivities. Parents and guardians are urged to caution their children against involvement in any disruptive activities.
This announcement comes after the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, suspended his planned Eid Durbar, also citing security concerns and the imperative to maintain peace. Emir Bayero emphasized that while the Durbar is a cherished cultural event, its continuation should not compromise public safety.
The Kano State Police Command calls on all residents to cooperate fully with security agencies and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration.
