NYSC Corps Members to Receive ₦77,000 Monthly Allowance Starting February.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that starting from February 2025, corps members will receive a monthly allowance of ₦77,000, a significant increase from the previous ₦33,000. This adjustment aligns with the provisions of the 2025 Federal Government budget.

Brigadier General Ahmed made this announcement while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina. He emphasized that although January has concluded, the new allowance will commence once the budget is passed. He stated, “This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving ₦77,000 instead of the usual ₦33,000.”

The increase in the monthly allowance is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance the welfare of corps members, acknowledging their contributions to national development. This move is expected to boost the morale of the young graduates participating in the mandatory one-year national service program.

In addition to the allowance increment, the NYSC DG assured corps members of their safety during the service year. He reiterated that the NYSC is committed to the welfare and security of all corps members across the country and will ensure that they are not deployed to areas with security challenges. He stated, “We will not send our corps members to wherever we have challenges of security threats. Wherever we send them, they should be rest assured that the place is safe and secured for them to serve.”

This development has been met with widespread approval, as it addresses long-standing calls for better compensation for NYSC participants amidst Nigeria’s challenging economic climate. The increased allowance is anticipated to have a positive impact on the corps members’ standard of living and overall service experience.
