The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the temporary suspension of train services between Port Harcourt and Aba due to routine maintenance. The suspension takes effect immediately, with operations scheduled to resume on September 9, 2025.
According to NRC officials, the decision was made to ensure the safety and reliability of the rail infrastructure along the corridor. The maintenance work will focus on track integrity, signal systems, and rolling stock inspections, all aimed at enhancing passenger experience and minimizing future disruptions.
The Port Harcourt–Aba route has been a vital link for commuters and traders in the South-South and South-East regions, offering an affordable and efficient alternative to road travel. The temporary halt is expected to affect daily passengers, but NRC has assured the public that the improvements will lead to better service delivery once operations resume.
Passengers who had booked tickets in advance are advised to contact NRC customer service for rescheduling or refunds. The corporation also urged the public to stay informed through official communication channels to avoid misinformation.
