NiMet Predicts 3-Day Haziness, Cloudiness Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day period of haziness and cloudiness across various regions of the country. The prediction, released in a weather outlook, highlights the potential impact of dust haze and cloudy conditions on visibility and overall weather patterns.

In the northern region, moderate dust haze is expected to dominate during the period, affecting states such as Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, and Maiduguri. NiMet warns that these conditions may lead to reduced horizontal visibility, potentially disrupting aviation and road transportation.

The central region, including Abuja, Kaduna, and Plateau, will experience a mix of hazy weather and localized cloudiness. Unlike the northern region, this zone is not expected to record any significant rainfall, maintaining relatively dry conditions throughout the forecast period.

For the southern region, NiMet predicts partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with a likelihood of isolated thunderstorms in coastal areas such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Calabar. These thunderstorms are more likely to occur in the late afternoon or evening hours, offering some relief from the warm temperatures typically experienced in these areas.

NiMet has advised residents in the northern region, particularly those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activities as dust haze could pose health risks. Travelers are also urged to exercise caution as the reduced visibility may impact road safety.

The agency reiterated its commitment to providing accurate and timely weather forecasts to help Nigerians plan effectively. NiMet also encouraged the public to stay updated through its official channels to ensure they are well-prepared for any weather-related challenges.
