Nigeria Recommits to Gender Inclusivity and Women Empowerment: A New Era of Equality

In a significant move towards gender equality, the Nigerian government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women across the nation. Vice President Kashim Shettima made this declaration during a press briefing on the upcoming gender inclusion conference themed “Breaking Down Barriers and Building Resilience for Sustainable Economic and Financial Inclusion for Women.”

The conference, scheduled to take place at the State House Conference Center on January 30th and 31st, 2025, aims to address pressing challenges related to women’s economic empowerment and inclusion. The event will provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and actionable solutions to promote gender equality and empower women in Nigeria and across the African continent.

Vice President Shettima, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hadeja, emphasized the importance of the conference in advancing economic inclusion for women. He highlighted that the initiative is part of the implementation of the Aso Accord for economic and financial inclusion, which aims to foster equitable opportunities and active participation of women in national development.

The two-day conference will feature executive and technical sessions, as well as a town hall meeting to discuss the issues raised on the first day. Notable participants include the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, State Governors, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

This transformative summit underscores the Nigerian government’s dedication to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on gender equality. By fostering inclusivity and empowering women, Nigeria is taking significant steps towards creating a more equitable and prosperous society.
