More governors are prepared to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000.

A growing number of state governors have expressed their willingness to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000, which President Bola Tinubu signed into law on Monday, July 29, 2024, raising it from the previous N30,000.

It should be noted that the new minimum wage was the result of a series of meetings that ended without a consensus between the Organised Labour, private sector representatives, and the federal government, all of whom were part of the Tripartite Committee.

The new wage is seen as an important move towards addressing the increasing cost of living and enhancing the welfare of Nigerian civil servants. However, its implementation at the state level has elicited varied responses from governors nationwide.

While some state governors have shown their willingness to implement the new minimum wage, others have voiced concerns about their inability to meet the payment due to financial constraints.

Here are some governors who have declared their readiness to implement the new N70,000 minimum wage;

1. Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos state has disclosed his readiness to pay N85,000 minimum wage for workers in the state
2. Muhammad Yahyah of Gombe state has approved a new minimum wage of N71,451 for state civil servants and local government employees.
3. Charles Soludo of Anambra state announced the implementation of the new N70,000 minimum wage by the end of October.
4. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State disclosed readiness to pay N70,000 minimum wage.
5. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state expressed approval of N77,000 minimum wage for the state civil servants.
6. Dikko Radda of Katsina state announced the implementation of N70,000 minimum wage for workers.
7. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi state approved 72,500 as new minimum wage for state workers.
8. Muhammadu Inuwa yahyah of Gombe state announced willingness to pay the new minimum wage for the state workers.
9. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state announced willingness to follow the new minimum wage approved by the federal government.
10. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state announced N70,000 minimum wage.
11. Hyacinth Alia of Benue state approved N70,000 minimum wage.
12. Ademola Adeleke of Osun state is also willing to pay the new approved minimum wage.
13. Abdullahi Sule announced the commencement of the the new N70,000 minimum wage
14. Seyi Makinde of Oyo state expressed willingness to pay new N70,000 minimum wage.
