In a shocking incident, students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) have accused the security detail of Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, of opening fire on them during a peaceful protest. The students were marching to the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta to protest against increased school fees and the dissolution of the Students Union Government when the clash occurred.
Francis Adeyanju, Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee, refuted claims by the governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, that the students attacked the convoy. Adeyanju insisted that the students were peacefully chanting and singing when the security operatives opened fire, injuring a NANS leader.
Adeyanju demanded an apology from the deputy governor and a retraction of the alleged falsehoods within 24 hours, warning of massive student protests if their demands are not met. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for an investigation into the actions of the security operatives.
