Ogun State has officially joined Nigeria’s commercial aviation map as Gateway International Airport in Abeokuta launches its first passenger flights. Starting October 7, 2025, ValueJet Airlines will operate twice-weekly services between the newly commissioned airport and Abuja, marking a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) granted the airport its Aerodrome Operational Permit in August, clearing the way for scheduled commercial operations. Flights will depart Gateway International Airport (GWI) every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m., arriving in Abuja by 9:45 a.m. Return flights from Abuja will leave at 4:00 p.m. and land back in Abeokuta by 5:15 p.m.

Tickets went on sale September 25 and are available online, through travel agents, and at the airport’s ticket desks. The launch has sparked excitement among business travelers, government officials, and leisure passengers across Ogun, Lagos, and Ibadan, who now have a faster alternative to road travel.

Governor Dapo Abiodun hailed the development as a breakthrough for regional connectivity and economic growth. He also revealed plans for future cargo flights between London and Ogun State, positioning the airport as a strategic hub for trade and tourism.
