The anticipation is building as the 2025 Nigeria Pitch Awards draw near, promising an evening of celebration and recognition for Nigeria’s footballing talent. Set to be held at the Four Points by Sheraton in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, immediately after the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on March 25, the event will spotlight the stars of Nigerian football.
In the prestigious “King of the Pitch” category, Atalanta FC’s dynamic forward, Ademola Lookman, will go head-to-head with Galatasaray’s prolific striker, Victor Osimhen, and Al-Kholood FC’s stalwart defender, William Troost-Ekong. These players have delivered outstanding performances this season, making the competition for the coveted title fiercer than ever.
The awards night will also feature the “Queen of the Pitch” category, showcasing top female footballers such as Bay FC forward Asisat Oshoala, Paris FC goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Atlético de Madrid Femenino forward Rasheedat Ajibade. Their remarkable contributions to women’s football have earned them a place among the elite contenders.
Beyond individual accolades, the ceremony will honor two distinguished Nigerians with the Special Achievement in Sports Award for their significant contributions to the development of sports in the country. Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and AIG Garba Baba Umar (Retd), former Chairman of the NFF Security Committee, will be recognized for their dedication and service to Nigerian sports.
Other exciting categories include the Striker of the Year Award, where Lookman will once again compete, this time against Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface and Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen. The Best Corporate Sponsor of Football Award will see GTI Financial, MTN Nigeria, and Bet9ja Limited vying for the top spot.
