The Lagos State Police Command has declared a 12-hour restriction on vehicular and waterway movement across the state on Saturday, July 12, 2025, to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the local government elections.
According to a statement by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the restriction will be enforced from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., covering all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos. The directive, agreed upon by the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), aims to safeguard voters, election officials, and the integrity of the electoral process.
Key Measures:
- No vehicular movement allowed on roads and waterways during the restriction period
- Armed escorts and security aides banned from polling units and collation centers
- Sirens and covered number plates prohibited near voting locations
- Only essential services—ambulances, fire trucks, LASIEC-accredited observers, and media—are exempt, provided they carry valid LASIEC-issued ID tags
Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and warned that violators will be arrested and prosecuted under the Electoral Act. Political parties and parents were also advised to caution members and wards against violence or disruption.
