President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at the Children’s FunFair in Ibadan, which resulted in the loss of 35 innocent lives and left six others critically injured. The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Oyo State, as well as to the grieving families who have lost their beloved children.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He directed the relevant authorities to determine whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to the incident, ensuring a transparent and accountable process.
The President urged the Oyo State Government to take every necessary measure to prevent such a tragedy from reoccurring. He called for a comprehensive review of all public events’ safety measures, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular safety audits of event venues.
The incident occurred at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, where over 7,500 children had gathered for the funfair, exceeding the expected capacity of 5,000. The event was organized by Wings Foundation in collaboration with Agidigbo FM.
