The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 585 forged Advanced Level (A-Level) certificates used for admission processes in 2025. This revelation was made by JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with staff in preparation for the 2025 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Among the identified cases, 13 involved forged Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) certificates, an advanced-level qualification that allows students to gain direct entry admission into Nigerian universities. These fraudulent certificates were uploaded by Professional Registration Centres and are currently under investigation. Professor Oloyede reported that four individuals have been apprehended and are assisting law enforcement agencies in efforts to dismantle the examination malpractice networks.
This development underscores JAMB’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary education admissions process. The board has implemented measures, including the establishment of the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPED), to curb the use of fraudulent credentials.
Candidates are advised to ensure the authenticity of their academic credentials, as JAMB continues to scrutinize submissions rigorously. The board’s proactive stance aims to uphold standards and ensure that only qualified candidates gain admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions.
