On March 5, 2025, FirstBank held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new 40-story, eco-friendly headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and business magnates such as Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola.
Governor Sanwo-Olu presented the Certificate of Approval to FirstBank, commending the institution for its visionary project. He highlighted the significance of situating the headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, emphasizing Lagos’s commitment to becoming Africa’s financial powerhouse and providing an enabling environment for investors.
The planned headquarters is set to become Nigeria’s tallest building, standing at 252 meters. Designed with sustainability in mind, the green-certified structure aims to reduce operational costs and environmental impact, setting a new benchmark for the financial services sector in Africa.
During the ceremony, Aliko Dangote announced plans to relocate his industrial empire’s headquarters to Eko Atlantic City, reinforcing the area’s status as Nigeria’s emerging financial hub. This move, alongside FirstBank’s new headquarters, signifies a shift towards Eko Atlantic as the new center of business and finance in Lagos.
