The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina-bound) in Lagos for essential maintenance and rehabilitation works. The closure is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025, and will last until the end of May 2025.
This closure will affect traffic traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan by Zone 2. Motorists are advised to plan their routes carefully and consider using alternative roads to avoid significant traffic delays.
To mitigate traffic disruptions, the Lagos State Government has introduced a traffic diversion plan. The affected section—from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge—will be closed to vehicular movement during the repair period. However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will remain open to traffic.
Motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way are advised to use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, turn onto Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and then take Obafemi Awolowo Road to Ring Road. Those heading to the Third Mainland Bridge should take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, continue through Akin Adesola Street, then link Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road and connect to Ring Road. For access to Inner Marina/CMS, motorists should divert to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue via Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, then link Obafemi Awolowo Road to access J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage vehicular movement and minimize disruptions during the repair period. Motorists are urged to exercise patience and adhere to traffic advisories as the partial closure is part of the overall rehabilitation work on the asphalt pavement of the affected sections.
