President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government has allocated N940 billion to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in the 2025 budget. This allocation aims to enhance infrastructure, research, and overall development in Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education and ensuring that tertiary institutions have the necessary resources to thrive. He noted that the allocation marks a significant increase compared to previous years, reflecting the administration’s priority on education.
The TETFund, which was established to support public tertiary institutions through funding for infrastructure, research, and academic staff development, is expected to utilize the budgetary allocation to address pressing challenges in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Tinubu urged institutions to make judicious use of the funds to achieve sustainable academic growth.
Education sector stakeholders have welcomed the increased funding, describing it as a positive step towards addressing the funding gaps in Nigeria’s higher education system.
