In a major boost to Nigeria’s aviation sector, Enugu Air has officially launched domestic flight operations, marking a historic milestone for the Enugu State Government and the country’s push for indigenous airline growth.
The airline was inaugurated on Monday, July 7, 2025, by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State. The launch aligns with the federal government’s 5-Point Aviation Agenda, which prioritizes ease of doing business and the expansion of local carriers2.
✈️ Key Highlights:
- Fleet: Three Embraer 170 aircraft, each seating approximately 76 passengers
- Initial Routes: Enugu–Abuja and Enugu–Lagos
- Ticketing: Bookings are processed via XEJet’s platform, as Enugu Air operates under XEJet’s license pending completion of its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC)
- Future Plans: Expansion to other Nigerian cities and regional African destinations
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) granted interim approval for operations through a partnership with XEJet, which has integrated Enugu Air’s aircraft into its certified operations framework.
Minister Keyamo praised the initiative, urging Enugu residents to support the airline and avoid political interference:
“If the governor is two minutes late, close the door of the aircraft and take off,” he quipped, emphasizing professionalism.
Governor Mbah described the launch as a “giant leap” for Enugu’s economic transformation, positioning the state as a regional aviation hub and gateway for investment and tourism.
