Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged misappropriation of ₦138,413,253.89. The allegations involve violations of procurement processes and diversion of public funds during the disbursement of the ministry’s 2023 budget allocation.

On Thursday, March 6, 2025, Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11 a.m. and underwent questioning regarding her alleged involvement in the fraud. Investigations suggest that funds intended for the “P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative” were diverted for personal use.

Ohanenye was among five ministers relieved of their duties following the 19th Federal Executive Council meeting held at the State House in October 2024. She was replaced by Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, the former Minister of State for Police Affairs, as the new Minister of Women Affairs.

In response to the allegations, Ohanenye stated that she served with integrity during her tenure and is cooperating fully with the EFCC. She emphasized her commitment to transparency and accountability, expressing confidence that the investigation will confirm her adherence to ethical standards.

The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the interrogation or any subsequent legal actions.
