The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular TikTok influencer Murja Ibrahim Kunya in Kano State for alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency. The arrest occurred on Saturday, March 15, 2025, as part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on individuals involved in currency abuse.
Murja Kunya, widely recognized on TikTok under the username ‘Yagayagamen,’ is known for her engaging content that has garnered a substantial following. However, her activities have previously attracted legal attention. In February 2023, she was detained by the Kano State Hisbah Board for allegedly engaging in immoral activities and corrupting public morals through her social media content. She was subsequently charged in a Shari’a court, where she pleaded not guilty. Following her release, she maintained a low profile for some time.
The EFCC has intensified its crackdown on individuals who engage in the indiscriminate spraying of money at events such as parties and birthday celebrations, considering such acts as abuse of the national currency. Recently, the commission also arrested other TikTok influencers, including Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris, on similar charges.
As of now, neither the EFCC nor Murja Ibrahim Kunya’s legal representatives have issued an official statement regarding the arrest. The investigation is ongoing, and upon completion, she is expected to be charged to court for prosecution.
