EFCC Explains Arrest of VeryDarkMan Over Alleged Cybercrime and Intimidation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), citing multiple complaints alleging that he used his social media platforms to harass, insult, and intimidate individuals. According to a source within the EFCC, these actions may contravene the Cybercrimes Act of 2015.

VDM’s legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, stated that the EFCC has not formally disclosed the specific offences his client is alleged to have committed.  However, reports indicate that the EFCC is preparing to arraign VDM on multiple charges related to alleged financial crimes.

The arrest occurred shortly after VDM visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to address concerns about unauthorized debits from his mother’s account. During this visit, he was reportedly detained by individuals in plain clothes, leading to public speculation about the circumstances of his arrest.

The EFCC has yet to release an official statement detailing the reasons for VDM’s arrest.  This lack of transparency has drawn criticism from human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, which described the arrest as an attempt to silence a government critic.

As of now, VDM remains in EFCC custody, with his legal team expected to seek bail upon the commission’s formal disclosure of charges.
